Key Developments

In 2023, we once again increased our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We set internal reduction targets for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions for each site in alignment with the Science Based Targets. Additionally, environmental sustainability means more to us than climate protection. More sites were newly certified against leading environmental management standard, e.g. Daka SARVAL to ISO 14001, Trémorel and Issé to ISO 50001, underpinning our efforts to improve our environmental performance. Aside from an environmental dimension, sustainability also entails social responsibility – first and foremost for our people. We care deeply about personal and professional development, which is why we launched our Leadership Competencies Framework in 2023. As a key element in our organizational culture, it defines our vision, strategy, and desired competencies for leadership and is progressively being integrated into our people management process.

To symbolize our team’s commitment, a cherry tree was planted at each site that completed the Lean program. The Lean Management language employs many tree metaphors and the cherry trees, rooted in Japanese culture, embody Lean's transformative essence: watching them blossom is a life-changing experience – just like Lean transformation.

Project Highlights

Creating a Safe Workplace: 10 Golden Rules of Safety

In order to create a safe and healthy working environment, we formulated our 10 Golden Rules of Safety in 2023. We wanted to establish principles that are easy to understand and to internalize and aim to prevent accidents, occupational diseases, and fires, thereby reducing risks for our employees in the workplace. To draw on our experience and expertise and take international perspectives into account, we developed comprehensive and practical principles together with our employees, health and safety management experts and specialists from all regions.

Enhancing our Environmental Performance

To support our emissions reduction efforts, we successfully implemented our SINAPS business intelligence platform. It enables us to systematically monitor and evaluate our site-specific environmental performance on a monthly basis so we can identify potentials for improvement. The monitoring is completed by the Gemba Walks we carried out on five sites in three countries. These audits allow us to detect opportunities for optimization in collaboration with our staff – fostering our environmental management and giving every employee the opportunity to bring their expertise to performance improvements.
