Key Developments

In 2023, we continued to make steady progress in our sustainability journey – reflected by the improvement in our EcoVadis rating, which placed us now among the top 7% of all companies assessed worldwide. Against the background of increasing ESG regulation, we enlarged our sustainability team, particularly to meet the growing reporting requirements. In parallel we also intensified our cross-border collaboration to share knowledge and ideas and to discuss challenges. In order to provide guidance and track progress, we initiated a process to define measurable goals. Pursuing our step-by-step approach, we strive to start by establishing environmental goals in 2024.

SARIA received the ESG Transparency Award initiated by EUPD Research, honoring the transparency of our sustainability report and our underlying initiatives and measures.

Project Highlights

ESG Data Management: Enhancing Sustainability

Modern sustainability management is virtually impossible without the right tools. In 2022, we introduced a tool to support ESG reporting in our entire Group. It allows us to define workflows, manage customized access to data for individual users and increase data quality through validation processes. Last year was the first time we completed our annual, group-wide sustainability reporting using this tool. We also extended the scope of our reporting to include health and safety data. Additionally, we incorporated historic, decentralized data which we can use for progress tracking, longitudinal comparisons and plausibility checks by identifying unusual patterns. At SARIA, we regard a larger scope of data and higher data quality as a basis for making informed decisions to achieve continuous improvement.

CSRD Readiness Initiative

As from fiscal year 2025, our parent company RETHMANN will be subject to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which demands extensive ESG reporting from corporations. Determined to prepare well in advance, we developed a course of action for this challenging undertaking in 2023. SARIA is coordinating the disclosure process for the entire RETHMANN Group, working in close collaboration with our sister companies REMONDIS and Rhenus. In 2024, we plan to define the qualitative and quantitative data requirements, so we will be ready to create our first report in line with CSRD requirements in 2025 as a “trial run”. This will allow us to gain experience before publishing the mandatory report one year later.
