It’s a century: SARIA UK celebrates its roots in Doncaster!
21.08.2026
The history of SARIA UK goes back 100 years, when the Prosper De Mulder Group was founded (PDM Group). What started as a small family business focused on making the most of animal by-products grew rapidly over the decades.
In 1926, PDM Group was founded in Doncaster, Northern England. Over the years they became one of UK’s major processors of animal by-products and, later, food waste, as part of the SARIA Group. While the name and ownership may have changed over the years, the family-business spirit has, of course, remained at the heart of the company.
The connection between PDM and the SARIA Group began in 2010, when the two companies joined forces and brought the first ReFood UK branch with an integrated biogas plant to Doncaster. SARIA gradually increased its stake in the PDM Group over the following years, with the company adopting the name ‘SARIA’ in 2014. The acquisition was fully completed in 2016.
SARIA UK may have carried the SARIA name since 2014, but its roots in Doncaster reach back to 1926. The anniversary therefore marks not only 100 years of local company history, but also a century of experience, collaboration, and the continuous advancement of an industry that makes a significant contribution to the circular economy.
