50 years of excellence at Bioiberica

Bioiberica is celebrating its company anniversary this year, marking half a century of life science excellence. Since the company was founded in 1975, production has focused on the manufacture of Heparin-API, one of the most important active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) for human health.

Heparin is the world’s most widely used active ingredient for the prevention and treatment of thrombosis. Today, one out of every five heparin doses administered worldwide has been developed and manufactured by Bioiberica. It is classified as an essential drug by the World Health Organization and was discovered in 1916. The heparin molecule is a naturally occurring polysaccharide. Bioberica extracts the biologically derived API from material sourced through Van Hessen. Both companies are part of the SARIA Group and work closely together based on their shared value chain.

In an honorable recognition, Bioiberica was awarded the title “Heparin Production Company of the Year in Europe 2024” by Life Sciences Review. This award is a testament the company’s unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. Today, Bioiberica has more than 100 products that improve the health of people, animals and plants. Based in Pallafols (Barcelona, Spain), the company employs over 500 experts at 9 production sites worldwide and sells its products in 80 countries. Bioiberica has been officially connected with SARIA since 2012 and became 100% part of the Group in 2016.
