Our diverse business activities are organized into three divisions that are tightly aligned with different customers and their individual needs. This approach is also reflected in our sustainability management: We believe that our sustainability efforts should be equally linked to the specific conditions and requirements arising from the respective national and business context. Therefore, each unit is responsible for developing its individual sustainability strategy, but at the same time we are working hand in hand across national and divisional boundaries to promote exchanges and mutual learning to achieve the greatest positive impact.
Expert in Converting Organic Materials into Green
Energies & Providing Sustainable Solutions
Our Organics2Power (O2P) division is taking pioneering approaches to collecting and converting organic materials into alternative fuels and fertilizers. SecAnim, ReFood and ecoMotion are driven by the conviction that there are ecological and economic values even in organic materials that would otherwise go to waste. By collecting and reusing them in innovative and safe ways, they make a vital contribution to fighting climate change and resource scarcity. With sustainability being part of our DNA, we actively contribute to a circular economy in the communities we operate in.
Providing Sustainable Ingredients For Healthy Animals
Our Group-wide SARVAL and Bioceval activities are specialized in converting animal by-products from the meat and fish industry into proteins, fats and oils as nutrient-rich ingredients for the petfood, aquafeed and feed industries as well as for oleochemical and biofuels markets worldwide. Our naturally sustainable products have great potential to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the value chain.
Since 2021, we have successively combined our Group-wide Bioceval activities as well as a multitude of our SARVAL activities in the cross-border division Sinova to best serve our international customer base. Our SARVAL activities in Germany, the UK, Denmark and the Czech Republic continue to be managed on a regional basis.
Contributing to the Health and Nutrition of People, Animals
& Plants
Our Food & Pharma division revolves around creating value from animal-derived materials, offering a large variety of products for the health and well-being of people, animals and plants. Due to their strong vertical integration, our two business units – Van Hessen and Bioiberica – make sure that resources from the meat-processing industry are used in their entirety. Based on this circular approach, we make a vital contribution to sustainable development.
Van Hessen works closely with slaughterhouses from where it sources gut packages, which provide the basis for the company’s wide portfolio consisting of high-quality natural casings, meat products, and raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry. Other parts of the gut package are passed on directly to Bioiberica, securing full traceability of the entire supply chain. The mucosa is of particular importance here, being the raw material out of which live-saving heparin and other active pharmaceutical ingredients are produced. In addition, Bioiberica also supplies biologically derived products to the nutraceutical, veterinary, feed and agricultural industries.
